EXCEL/SSS is an academic support program that serves low-income, first-generation, and students with disabilities who are enrolled at Mineral Area College and have the potential to earn an associate’s degree. Although an application is required, around 80% of MAC students qualify.

The goals of EXCEL/SSS are to retain students until graduation, provide tutoring support to help them maintain a strong GPA, and to assist them in transferring to a four-year college or university.

EXCEL provides the following services:

• Broad tutoring support in most courses, in-person and online
• Advising services oriented toward course selection, degree planning, registration, and transfer
• Financial aid and economic literacy information
• Over $15,000 in scholarships and Supplemental Grant Aid awarded annually
• Learning Workshops providing supplemental academic support
• Campus tours and educational enrichment events
